Kicking off New York Fashion Week at the Plaza is nothing less than iconic, and Christian Siriano knows how to do iconic.

We had the chance to speak with Lacy Redway, TRESemmé partner and celebrity stylist, for the Christian Siriano FW’24 show this season. We also got an inside look and watched Redway demo how she created a new and celestial twist on the slick back bun using TRESemmé’s new Keratin Smooth collection, which she says “will take her through fashion week.”

An essential product Redway makes sure to use on the models throughout the hectic week is the Thermal Protection Spray. Redway said,

“Models are coming from show to show, and I want to do my best back here to make sure their hair is protected.”

Redway also incorporates the TRESemmé One Step Blow-Out Cream and the Extra Hold Mousse before slicking the hair back to make sure the hair is hydrated.

Redway and her team were also lucky enough to be the first to use the new Dyson Supersonic, which she says is “really compact and lightweight, so it really helps to maneuver the styles quickly.” She also added that the multiple attachments are crucial to working on different hair types and textures.

Redway used a flat brush and Extra Hold Mousse while blowing the hair back to smooth it, and once the hair was smooth, the pony was secured with an elastic and set with the Extra Hold Hairspray by TRESemmé. Once the pony is looking snatched, she creates what she calls the ‘celestial box bun.’ Inspired by all of the fabrics Christian used in his line, he wanted to rope in the futuristic vibes from the pieces into the hair look. Redway added,

“When I first saw the clothes, I wanted to mirror the reflectiveness of the designs in the hair while also indulging in blunt and unique textures that make the look feel fun and futuristic.”

Redway elevates the face of the usual slick back bun and makes it square-shaped, and she thinks this is something we could see more of in the future. She explained the updo as a ‘reverse bun’ by first saturating the pony in TRESemmé Mega Hold Gel, turning the ponytail onto itself twice, laying it flat, and then using her hand to keep the square shape, securing the look with bobby pins. Any stragglers were tucked in with a fine-tooth comb.

The final touches are added using the TRESemmé Mega Hold Gel to add the gold leaf to the part and the top of the bun, adding an even more celestial vibe to the look. She then set the gold leaf with the flyaway attachment of the Dyson Supersonic. The final step was the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Weightless Silky Shine Spray to give a ‘shiny finish,’ which she added was her holy grail product of the look.

The final question to Lacy was: If she could only live with two TRESemmé products for the rest of her life, what would they be? She told me she personally loves the Thermal Protection Spray and TRESemmé’s Fine Hair Spray, but her go-to product backstage will always be the Freeze Hair Spray, as it has been “a hero product of hers for seasons.”
