The Giving Movement’s First NYC Pop-Up Shop

On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, The Giving Movement, a sustainable streetwear brand founded in April 2020 by Dominic Nowell-Barnes, held its first NYC pop-up shop in Soho. The evening was filled with an amazing DJ, a meet and greet with the owners, refreshments, and an intimate viewing of the collection.

The Giving Movement has a collection I can describe in three words – functional, fashionable, and comfortable. The brand was originally located in Dubai, where the label first took off. Founder Dominic Nowell-Barnes is originally from the UK, London, but moved to Dubai where he could design this brand, truly fulfilled by Dubai’s culture and business lifestyle.

Dubai is a huge market, but the brand wanted to expand to an even larger audience, such as Los Angeles and most recently, New York. Due to the expansion, celebrities such as J.Lo, Keke Palmer, and Brooke Burke have worn the brand.

The athleisure style of the brand’s clothing is perfect for the West and East coasts, where streetwear thrives. The brand has matching sweatsuit sets, crop tops, and cargo pants, which are the main staples of what streetwear is about. Each piece is soft to the touch and has a simplistic structure.

As a brand, The Giving Movement stands for sustainable fashion, using environmentally stable products to reduce its carbon footprint on Earth. Each piece is made up of 80% recycled polyester and 20% spandex. The brand is also diverse with its clientele and authentic in its values. One of these values is giving back to charity. The Giving Movement donates $4 of each sale to charity and has already collected $6 million.

At the event, Dominic Nowell-Barnes, founder of The Giving Movement, said,

“The main goal of the brand is to go against the norm and provide an alternative to the typical streetwear piece. Sustainability and integrity are our two main goals while having this brand. It is made to not only make people feel and look good but also to let them know that they are supporting a great cause.”
